T3 Launches New Student Congress

Posted by:

19 promising technology students met to form the first T3 Student Congress, on April 21, 2009. The purpose of the gathering was to connect with Students and allow their voice to be heard. After an hour of sharing, answering questions, and asking them, the theme that kept surfacing was knowledge. The students want to know more about the technology industry, how to and where to network with technology professionals, and where the jobs are.

Some of the items they would like to see more of in the future are Guest Speaker Series, Job Readiness Sessions, posters on campus about T3 and the NTC, Internships, and more business involvement with students. They would also really like to have more events where students can network with professionals and other students.

At the meeting, held at Nashville State Community College, seven academic institutions were represented: Austin Peay, Belmont, ITT Tech, Lipscomb University, Middle Tennessee State, Nashville State, and Tennessee State. The Congress is comprised of Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering Technology, Software Applications Programming, and Web and Graphic Design majors.

Next steps for this group will be determined by the Connect Solution Team at their next meeting. Initial thoughts are that the group will meet twice per semester and act as an advisory board for T3 on how best to connect, communicate, and collaborate with students.
